Orlando Monorail Resorts: Contemporary, Polynesian & Grand Floridian

Three Walt Disney World resorts sit right on the monorail line that circles Magic Kingdom: Disney's Contemporary Resort, Disney's Polynesian Village Resort, and Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. Staying on that loop means you can reach the park in minutes without waiting for a bus. Getting to any of them from the airport is the easy part, and you can reach out to our team to get started or call 689-258-3572 to set it up.

The Genie Transportation Services drops guests at all three resorts week in and week out, so here is the honest lay of the land. The Contemporary and the Grand Floridian sit on either side of Seven Seas Lagoon, with the Polynesian in between. All three share the resort monorail, and the Contemporary and Grand Floridian are close enough to Magic Kingdom that you can walk if you feel like it.

The monorail is actually two loops. The resort loop links those three hotels to Magic Kingdom and the Transportation and Ticket Center, and a separate line runs out to EPCOT. That is a big part of why these resorts book up. You trade a higher nightly rate for skipping the bus, which is worth a lot on a morning when you are trying to make rope drop.

Contemporary and Bay Lake Tower

The Contemporary is the modern one, the tower the monorail glides straight through. Check in happens at the main lobby, or at Bay Lake Tower if you are staying on that side. It is the shortest walk to Magic Kingdom of the three, which families with tired kids appreciate at the end of a park day.

Polynesian Village and the Island Tower

The Polynesian leans into a South Pacific theme, and it added the Island Tower in 2024 with its own check in area separate from the main Great Ceremonial House. When we drop guests here it helps to know which building you are in before you arrive, because the two check in points are not next to each other.

Grand Floridian and its Villas

The Grand Floridian is the Victorian flagship, the most formal of the three. Check in is at the main lobby or at the Grand Floridian Villas depending on your room. From here it is a short monorail hop or a pleasant walk to Magic Kingdom.

Getting there from MCO

All three sit about 30 to 40 minutes from Orlando International Airport on a normal day. On our Walt Disney World transfers we can often take you straight to your building at the larger, more spread out resorts once your room is assigned in the app, which saves a long walk with luggage. We run dedicated routes for the Grand Floridian and the Polynesian if you want a page specific to your resort. If you are weighing where to stay, our guide to skipping the long bus to Animal Kingdom Lodge shows how a direct ride changes arrival day. Traveling with little ones? Our drivers install Graco car seats at no charge, and you can add a stroller to the booking.

Which monorail resort fits your trip

They are not interchangeable. The Contemporary suits families who want the shortest walk to Magic Kingdom and a modern room. The Polynesian is the pick for the theming and the beach along Seven Seas Lagoon, and the new Island Tower added rooms that book up quickly. The Grand Floridian is the splurge, quieter and more formal, with easy monorail access to the park. All three put you on the loop, so any of them saves you the bus. The difference is budget and vibe more than convenience. If you have a stroller and a toddler, ask us about adding a rental so you are not checking a bulky one at the airport.
One honest caveat. The monorail does go down for maintenance now and then, and Disney runs buses or boats as a backup when it does. It is not common, but it is worth knowing, and it is another reason a lot of guests still want a private car handling the airport leg where the timing actually matters.
