Orlando Travel Costs · Updated June 2026

By Simone Cerasa, founder of The Genie Transportation Services — an FAA-certificated private pilot, former Walt Disney World® Cast Member, and Central Florida District Director on the Board of the Florida Limousine Association.

Transportation from Orlando International Airport (MCO) to Walt Disney World® typically costs about $50 to $249 one way for a family of five in 2026, depending on whether you choose a shared shuttle, rideshare, a private car service, or Disney's Minnie Van airport service.

A family of five is a useful yardstick here, because shared shuttles charge per passenger while most private services charge per vehicle. As the group grows, the gap between "cheap" and "private" gets a lot smaller than people expect. Below is the honest math from someone who drives this route every day. (For the full side-by-side on travel time, car seats, and pickup logistics, see our complete 2026 MCO-to-Disney transportation guide — this piece is about the dollars.)

MCO to Disney cost at a glance (family of five)

Representative one-way costs for five travelers from MCO to the Walt Disney World® Resort area.

Transportation optionTypical one-way cost for fiveWhat the price includes
Mears Connect (Standard)~$90 for five adult fares; roughly $75–$80 with three child faresShared transportation with possible airport waiting and stops at multiple Disney-area resorts.
Uber / Lyft XL or XXL~$50–$150On-demand ride with price, vehicle size, and luggage capacity determined when you request it. Surge pricing applies.
The Genie private SUV$135 total (up to 6 passengers)Reserved full-size SUV, professional chauffeur, direct service, complimentary Graco car seats, tolls, and the MCO pickup fee — no surge.
Minnie Van airport service$249 each wayDisney-operated private ride for eligible Deluxe/Villa/Club-Level resort guests; includes up to two car seats.

Representative amounts reviewed June 2026. Actual fares vary by passenger ages, resort, vehicle class, demand, pickup time, luggage, optional services, and provider policies.

Mears figures use the current Standard adult airport-to-resort fare of about $18 per person (including the 3% fuel surcharge and Privilege Fee Recovery Charge). Children ages 3–9 ride at a reduced fare and children under 3 ride free, so most families with kids pay less than the all-adult total.

The Genie price is the total for a standard MCO pickup to the Walt Disney World® Resort area, up to six passengers. Optional services and early-morning or late-night fees are additional.

“McDonald's sells hamburgers for $2 and a quality restaurant sells them for $10. Motel 6 costs $100 a night and the Grand Floridian costs $500. You can't really compare rideshare to what we do — but here's the twist: when surge pricing hits, you can end up paying $10 for the McDonald's hamburger.”

Why group size changes the comparison

This is the whole ballgame. Mears charges per passenger; The Genie charges per vehicle. At the current adult fare, five Mears passengers run about $90.40 one way — versus our flat $135 for the whole SUV. That's a difference of only about $44.60. Add a sixth adult and Mears climbs to roughly $108, narrowing the gap to about $26.52.

Be honest with yourself about who's traveling, though: a real family of five usually isn't five adults. With child fares (and under-3s riding free), Mears can drop to about $75–$80, which widens the gap again. The fair way to read it: for that modest extra, you're trading a shared bus with resort stops for a private SUV that goes straight to your door.

The Genie private SUV and Sprinter van for Orlando family groups

For bigger groups, the gap can flip entirely. I've seen companies charge nearly triple what we do for a Sprinter van — about $410 round-trip from MCO to Disney with The Genie versus over $1,000 elsewhere for the same class of vehicle.

How much does Mears Connect cost for a family of five?

Mears Connect Standard is generally the least expensive scheduled option between MCO and Disney-area resorts. As of June 2026 the Standard adult airport-to-resort fare is about $18 per person (including the 3% fuel surcharge and the Privilege Fee Recovery Charge), so five adults come to roughly $90 one way. Children ages 3–9 ride at a reduced fare and children under 3 ride free, so a typical family with kids often lands closer to $75–$80.

The trade-off is that Standard service is shared: you may wait at the airport before departing, and the vehicle can stop at several resorts before reaching yours.

Best for: travelers whose top priority is the lowest scheduled fare and who don't mind sharing the ride and making resort stops.

How much does an Uber or Lyft cost from MCO to Disney?

Rideshare pricing is dynamic, so there's no single guaranteed fare. A standard car can look cheap, but a family of five with luggage will generally need an XL — and with several large suitcases plus a stroller, possibly an XXL or a second vehicle. Seat count doesn't guarantee cargo room: a vehicle rated for five or six can run out of trunk space once every seat is full.

Expect roughly $50 to $150 one way depending on demand, vehicle category, and availability when you request it. Prices spike during busy arrival banks, afternoon thunderstorms, conventions, holidays, and late nights.

What about rideshare vehicle standards?

There's a regulatory distinction worth knowing. Under Florida's transportation-network-company law (Fla. Stat. §627.748), rideshare drivers and vehicles are governed at the state level and are exempt from the local vehicle-for-hire permitting and inspection requirements that a private car service must meet to operate at MCO. A City of Orlando–permitted operator must complete local permitting, carry the required commercial insurance, and pass the required vehicle inspection; rideshare isn't held to that same local process. It doesn't mean every rideshare is poorly maintained — it means the vehicle, its age, condition, and luggage space can vary a lot from one ride to the next, and you won't know until the driver arrives.

Best for: travelers who prioritize on-demand convenience and are comfortable with variable pricing, vehicle category, luggage capacity, and condition.

Complimentary Graco car seat pre-installed in The Genie's private SUV

How much does The Genie's private SUV cost?

For our example family of five, a private full-size SUV is $135 total one way for a standard MCO pickup to the Walt Disney World® Resort area. The price includes:

  • A private GMC Yukon XL or comparable reserved vehicle
  • Transportation for up to six passengers
  • A professionally vetted chauffeur
  • Direct transportation to your resort
  • Active flight monitoring
  • Complimentary pre-installed Graco car seats or boosters upon request
  • Highway tolls and the MCO airport pickup fee
  • No demand-based surge pricing

Unlike a per-passenger shuttle, the standard SUV price doesn't go up when you add a fifth (or sixth) traveler, as long as the group and luggage fit safely.

Best for: families who want direct service, a confirmed full-size vehicle, advance car-seat arrangements, real luggage space, and a price known before they land.

How much does Minnie Van airport service cost?

Disney's Minnie Van airport service currently runs $249 each way between MCO and participating Walt Disney World® Resort hotels. It's limited to eligible guests at qualifying Disney Deluxe Resorts, Deluxe Villa Resorts, or Club-Level accommodations, seats up to six, and includes up to two car seats. It's a genuinely Disney-operated experience — at a price roughly double many independent private services.

Best for: eligible Disney Resort guests who want the Disney-operated experience and are comfortable paying a premium for it.

The hidden fees that change the math

The advertised fare isn't always the final number. Before booking any Orlando airport transportation, ask whether the quote already includes:

  • Airport pickup or access fees
  • Highway tolls
  • Fuel surcharges
  • Car seats or boosters
  • Early-morning or late-night fees
  • Credit-card processing fees
  • Mandatory gratuity
  • Extra luggage charges
  • Extra stops or waiting time
  • Cancellation or rescheduling fees

At The Genie, complimentary Graco car seats and boosters are available on request, and standard tolls plus the MCO pickup fee are already in the $135 example total. Optional services are disclosed before checkout — not sprung on you at the curb.

The cost of time: shared vs. direct

The lowest fare isn't always the best value. A private transfer from MCO to most Disney resorts takes about 25 to 40 minutes once everyone's loaded. A shared service adds airport waiting, boarding, baggage loading, and multiple resort stops — the whole journey can approach two hours.

If you've arrived early with no plans, that time may not matter. If you're racing a dining reservation, park tickets, or a toddler's nap on day one, direct transportation can be worth every dollar of the difference.

Car-seat costs can flip the comparison

Some Orlando companies charge per car seat, per direction — as much as $25 a seat. With two kids, that's an extra $100 round-trip. Standard rideshare generally can't guarantee a car seat at all, so you may have to bring your own or split into two vehicles.

The Genie provides Graco convertible car seats and boosters free on request, pre-installed before pickup, so you're not hauling child gear through the terminal. (Parents secure the child and check the seat before departure.)

A family of five with luggage and a stroller loading into a private SUV

Luggage capacity matters for a family of five

A vehicle can have five seatbelts and still not have room for five people's stuff. A typical family of five travels with three to five large suitcases, several carry-ons, a stroller, car seats, and maybe groceries. Some three-row vehicles lose most of their cargo space once the back row is occupied — a common rideshare surprise that forces an XXL or a second car.

Before booking, give the company an honest passenger count and luggage description, and have them confirm the vehicle fits. The goal isn't five seatbelts; it's one vehicle that safely holds your whole family and everything traveling with them.

Why have Orlando transportation prices gone up?

Professional airport transportation reflects far more than gasoline. Operators carry commercial vehicle insurance, vehicle financing, preventive maintenance, professional chauffeur pay, airport and local operating costs, cleaning and prep, dispatch and flight-monitoring technology, safety inspections, and the cost of holding a specific vehicle for a scheduled pickup. Fuel has also been volatile in 2026, especially for full-size SUVs and vans — some operators raised base fares, others added surcharges or airport fees.

From where I sit, after thousands of these airport runs: be skeptical of any quote that looks too good. We're a small business that's part of this community, not a billion-dollar app answering to shareholders — and a price that undercuts everyone else usually means a corner got cut somewhere you can't see: insurance, inspections, or airport permitting. A transparent final price beats a low starting rate that changes at checkout.

Which option is the best value for a family of five?

It depends on what your family values most:

  • Mears Connect — when the lowest scheduled fare is the priority and you don't mind a shared ride with resort stops.
  • Uber or Lyft XL/XXL — when you'd rather arrange the ride after you land and you're comfortable with variable pricing, vehicle category, and luggage capacity.
  • Minnie Van — when you're an eligible Disney Resort guest and want the premium Disney-operated experience.
  • A private car service — when you want direct transportation, a confirmed full-size vehicle, advance car seats, real luggage space, and a price you know before the travel day.

For a family of five, the best value usually isn't the lowest advertised fare. It's the option that fits everyone and their luggage, with predictable pricing and a smooth start to a vacation you've waited all year for.

For five adult fares, Mears Connect is about $90.40 one way versus The Genie's $135 — a difference of roughly $44.60. With child fares (and under-3s free) Mears can drop to about $75–$80, widening the gap. Either way, the private SUV adds direct service, a reserved vehicle, complimentary car seats, tolls, and no shared resort stops.

It can be. Uber or Lyft XL/XXL fares may run about $50 to $150 one way depending on demand, vehicle type, and availability. But rideshare prices aren't fixed in advance, and a family of five with luggage may need an XXL or two vehicles. A private service gives you a reserved vehicle, confirmed capacity, and a known price before the trip.

In most cases, yes. The full-size SUVs carry up to six passengers, subject to the amount and size of luggage. Families with several oversized suitcases, multiple strollers, or mobility equipment should share those details when booking so the right vehicle is confirmed.

Yes. Complimentary Graco convertible car seats and boosters are available on request and are installed before pickup, so you don't carry child gear through the airport. Parents or guardians inspect the seat and secure the child before departure.

Operating costs rose across the board: commercial insurance, vehicle and maintenance costs, chauffeur pay, airport and local operating requirements, and volatile 2026 fuel prices — especially for full-size SUVs and vans. Unusually low quotes deserve scrutiny; confirm the operator carries proper insurance, is authorized at MCO, and discloses all mandatory fees.
